The Virginia football team added another offensive lineman to its 2014 recruiting class

The Virginia football team added another offensive lineman to its 2014 recruiting class on Wednesday night when Fork Union Military Academy's Jacob Fieler committed to the Cavaliers.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder said that he chose Virginia over Cincinnati, Southern Miss, Old Dominion, Marshall and Ohio.

"I felt like it was the right place for me," Fieler told The Daily Progress on Wednesday night after making his commitment. "All of the places I visited, I liked them, but I liked everything about UVa. I couldn't find anything wrong with it."

Fieler is the 14th commitment and the third offensive lineman in Virginia's 2014 class. The other two lineman commits are Chancellor's Steven Moss and Cummings' (N.C.) Will Richardson. Both are rated as four-star recruits by 247sports.com. Virginia's class also includes two five-star recruits: Oscar Smith (Chesapeake) defensive lineman Andrew Brown, the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year, and Bayside (Virginia Beach) safety Quin Blanding.

"I think the recruiting class coming in, we could do some big things," Fieler said.

Fieler is the second member of the Fork Union postgraduate team to commit to Virginia, joining quarterback Corwin "Turtle" Cutler. Fieler has been fine tuning his game during his time at FUMA.

"I worked a lot the past year on changing by body before I got to [Fork Union]," said Fieler, who played high school football at Parkersburg South High School in West Virginia. "Mostly technique is what I worked on at Fork Union."

Fieler said that he took his official visit to Virginia on Sunday, right before the NCAA recruiting "dead period" began.

"I was fighting against time [during the visit] with the dead period, so it was a quick one, but it went great," said Fieler, who was recruited primarily by Virginia offensive line coach Scott Wachenheim.

Fieler said that he will report to Virginia on January 9, joining Brown as an early enrollee.

Virginia coach Mike London sent his congratulations on Fieler's commitment via Twitter.

"I would like to welcome FUMA and Parkersburg South OL Jake Fieler to the @UVa_Football Family," London tweeted. "Jake will enroll in January with [Brown]."

Fieler will participate in the Cavaliers' spring practice.

"It's huge to play spring ball," Fieler said. "It gives me an advantage on maybe getting a shot to play next year."

Fieler hopes to take advantage of that shot.

"After spring ball, I think I will be competing [for playing time]," said Fieler, who added that he will be playing guard for the Cavaliers. "I am a competitor. I always like to think that I will be competing and (the coaches) seem to think that I have a good chance."
